A Moral Story on Kindness: One Small Gesture
Ram and Shyam were best friends.
Both were excited for the final cricket match between India and Pakistan.
They had waited for three years to meet their hero, the Indian cricket captain, and get his autograph.
Ram’s father had managed tickets near the players’ dugout.
The boys carried their autograph books and pens in their pockets, hearts full of hope.
The stadium was a sea of blue jerseys.
The air was electric.
For the two friends, there was only one dream—an autograph from their idol.
Inside the stand, they pushed forward to get closer.
That was when Shyam noticed a man limping slowly in front of him.
Impatient, he shoved past, knocking down the man’s walking stick.
The man stumbled to the ground.
Shyam muttered, “Why come to a crowded stadium if you cannot walk fast?” and rushed ahead.
Ram stopped.
He bent down, picked up the stick, and helped the man to his feet.
Step by step, he walked with him until they reached a seat—right next to the players’ dugout.
Before leaving, Ram whispered, “I wish I was sitting here. I could have asked for the captain’s autograph.”
Ram rejoined Shyam ten seats away.
The match began.
Security was tight.
The dream of reaching the players seemed impossible.
As the overs passed, their hope started to fade.
Two overs left.
One last chance.
They prayed silently.
Then it happened.
The same man returned.
In his hands was a jersey signed by the Indian captain.
He gave it to Ram and said, “I convinced the security to let me through. This is for your kind gesture. You will grow into a generous and kind gentleman.”
Shyam sat frozen.
His eyes filled with tears.
In that moment, he realised his mistake.
Moral of the story: When you choose kindness, life notices. One small good deed can open doors effort alone cannot.
