Ashok loved telling stories in class.
For two months, he had been preparing for the inter-school storytelling competition. His teachers admired his style and encouraged him often.
Ashok wanted to win.
He dreamed of bringing home a trophy—just like his elder brother who had won the school drawing competition last year.
The day arrived.
Ashok waited backstage with his friends and teachers.
His parents waved from the audience.
Excitement filled the air.
When his turn came, Ashok walked slowly to the stage.
The crowd looked huge.
A sudden wave of fear struck him.
He had never stood in front of so many people before.
His hands trembled. His voice shook.
Though he tried, the nervousness stayed until the end.
Ashok lost the competition.
On the way home, he stayed silent.
Tears filled his eyes.
At home, he walked into his brother’s room.
He stared at the shining trophy and broke down crying.
His father stepped in.
He hugged Ashok gently and asked, “Are you feeling bad for losing?”
Ashok nodded.
Pointing at the trophy, his father said softly, “Do you know this came after losing three competitions? Every loss teaches us something. Every difficulty shows us the way forward. Winning is built on learning from defeat.”
Ashok wiped his tears.
A smile returned to his face.
He hugged his father tightly.
That day, he understood a lesson that would stay with him forever.
Moral of the Story: Always look at the positive side of every difficulty. Failure is not the end—it is the beginning of growth.
